A powerful explosion caused by a gas buildup inside an apartment triggered a fire on Saturday afternoon in the Parque Las Palmas neighborhood, sending shockwaves of fear through residents of the housing complex located along Las Palmas Avenue.

According to information provided by the Fire Department, the blast severely damaged the apartment where the explosion originated, as well as at least four other units located above it in the same building. Several vehicles parked nearby also sustained damage.

The emergency call to 911 reported a building fire, prompting Municipal Police officers to respond swiftly. Upon arrival, they confirmed flames were coming from inside the apartment, while the street outside was littered with shattered glass, aluminum structures, and window debris.

The force of the blast was so intense that furniture was thrown against the apartment’s front wall, illustrating the severity of the gas accumulation. The explosion also blew out large windows and dislodged a metal railing.

First responders from the Fire Department, Civil Protection, Municipal Police, Traffic Police, the Army, and the Navy quickly mobilized to the scene. As of now, five people have been reported injured, none of them seriously.
